“They even sacrificed their sons and their daughters to demons, and shed innocent blood, the blood of their sons and daughters, whom they sacrifice to the idols of Canaan; and the land was polluted with blood. Thus they were defiled by their own works, and they played the harlot by their own deeds. Therefore the wrath of the Lord was kindled against His people, so that He abhorred His own inheritance. And He gave them into the hands of the gentiles, and those who hated them ruled over them. Their enemies also oppressed them, and they were brought into subjection under their hand.”
The pagan religions practiced child sacrifice. One of the many pagan gods, Baal, was worshipped as the key to fertility and prosperity. To entice Baal to bless their land, mothers were required to present her firstborn child to the priest. Baal was represented by a huge stone, or brass, statue carved in the image of a bull’s head and the upper body of a man. The arms were extended to receive babies and fire belched from a hollow area in the chest.
As the priests of Baal carried each baby up the stairs and laid the victim in the arms of the horned idol of Baal, the baby was consumed in the flames. This was the religion of Baal and of those who worshipped Asherah. The Ammonites who worshipped Molech and the Phoenicians who worshiped Kronos also practiced child sacrifice. These pagan religions required the parents to have their children pass through the fire as a sacrifice to their demon gods.
The true people of God have always found themselves fighting against religions that want to sacrifice the most innocent blood of all. The Lord commanded, in Deuteronomy 18:10, that when you come into the land of the heathen, you are not to sacrifice your children. We read in Proverbs 6:17 that the Lord hates those who shed innocent blood.
In Exodus 1:16 we read that Pharaoh commanded the midwives to kill every male boy that was born to the Hebrews in Egypt. The pharaohs of today still want to kill babies.
In the New Testament the Gospel begins in Matthew 2:16 with King Herod ordering his soldiers to go to Bethlehem and kill all the male children up to age two.
We read in Numbers 35:33 that the land comes under a curse when innocent blood is shed. “Do not pollute the land where you are. Bloodshed pollutes the land, and atonement cannot be made for the land on which blood has been shed, accept the blood by the one who shed it.” Numbers 35:33
The contest between Pharaoh and Moses in Exodus was primarily a clash between the death-obsessed, child killing, mystical humanism of Egypt and the way of life in serving Jehovah, the God of Israel. The climactic battle on Mount Carmel between Elijah and the prophets of Baal was a battle against a religion centred on child sacrifice (1 Kings 18).
Carol Everett was involved in the abortion industry. Not only did she perform abortions, but she also had an abortion. When asked: “What is the governing force behind the abortion industry?” Carol answered: “Money. It is a very lucrative business. It is the largest unregulated industry…most of the clinics are run in chains because it is so profitable.”
Carol explained: “Every woman has two questions, ‘is it a baby?’ and ‘does it hurt?’ The abortionist must answer ‘No.’ He/she must try to secure the consent of the woman in the collection of the clinic’s fee. The women are told that they were dealing with a product of conception or a glob of tissue. They were told that there would be only slight cramping, whereas, in reality, an abortion is excruciatingly painful.”
When asked what type of counselling was offered at the clinic?, Carol Everett answered: “We didn’t do any real counselling. We sold abortion.”
In answer to how they disposed of the aborted babies, Carol explained: “We put them down the garbage disposal.”
A former abortion counselor, Debra Henry admitted: “We were told to find the woman’s weakness and work on it. The women were never given any alternatives. They were told how much trouble it was to have a baby.”
Former abortion counselor, Nita Whitten admitted: “It’s a lie when they tell you they are doing it to help women, because they are not. They are doing it for the money.”
Former abortion counselor, Kathy Sparks, said: “The counselor at our clinic would cry with the girls at the drop of a pin. She would find out what was driving them to want to abort the child and she would magnify it.”
Former abortionist, David Brewer, M.D., admitted: “My heart got calloused against the fact that I was murderer, but the baby lying in a cold bowl educated me to what abortion really was.”
Former abortionist, Antony Levatino, M.D., said: “I want the general public to know that the doctors know that this is a person, this is a baby. That this is not some kind of glob of tissue…”
Former abortionist, Joseph Randall, M.D., said: “The picture of the baby on the ultrasound bothered me more than anything else. The staff couldn’t take it. Women who were having abortions were never allowed to see their ultrasounds.”
Former abortionist, MacArthur Hill, M.D., confessed: “I am a murderer. I have taken the lives of innocent babies and I have ripped them from their mothers wombs with a powerful vacuum machine.”
Former abortionist, Bernard N. Nathanson, M.D., was once a pioneer and leader in the abortion industry. He led the campaign for the legalisation of abortion in America and admitted that he and other abortion advocates blatantly lied to congress in order to get abortion legal. Dr. Nathanson presided over 60,000 abortions before being converted. Not only did Dr. Nathanson leave the abortion industry, but he has since been dedicated to fighting against abortion. Dr. Nathanson admits that abortion is murder. He has produced such documentaries as TheSilent Scream, and written the book: The Hand of God – a journey from death to life by the abortion doctor who changed his mind.
Dr. Frank Muller is a member of the Christian Medical Fellowship in South Africa and he has drawn our attention to how two-stage abortions are overloading hospitals and killing mothers.
Dr. Muller writes: “Abortions can be done either for profit (as by the private sector and by back street abortionists) or not (by state institutions and a few philanthropists). However, a third reality has emerged in South Africa for which no law makes adequate provision: the two-stage abortion.”
What is a two stage abortion?
Most South African abortions nowadays are initiated by Misoprostil. This is a prescription medication registered for the prevention of peptic ulcers and normally costs less than R4 a pill. It has the side effect of inducing labour (and therefore is contra-indicated in pregnancy). Misoprostil does not normally kill the baby; it merely expels the child (often still kicking) from the womb. (It then dies slowly from starvation or neglect.) This drug is provided at high cost by G.P.’s, pharmacists (often without prescription) and by back street abortionists to pregnant women, ranging from R250 to R1,000. The pill provider then pockets the profit.
But that is not the end.
The woman takes the drug, thinking it will be a discreet, one-stop solution to her dilemma. She avoids going to the state clinics because of privacy concerns. She even goes to extraordinary lengths to get the money together. But when the bleeding doesn’t stop, she has no choice but to report to a state facility with a miscarriage and has to undergo an emergency evacuation in the theatre under general anaesthetic. This involves her being admitted to hospital and taken to theatre, where remnants of the pregnancy (such as the placenta) are removed. She would often have to stay in hospital for a day or two. Since she waited for a long time for the bleeding to stop, she most likely requires a blood transfusion at R1,000 per pint. All this on the state budget.
The Misoprostil-enduced back street abortion has become a fully fledged industry. And the victims are clogging up limited theatre space in state institutions.
Logically the increase in two stage abortions translates into more women needing theatre time. The problem is that, since 1997, when abortion was first legalised, theatre capacity at state facilities has actually decreased (staff shortages being a main reason). So now we are seeing an even greater demand for increasingly limited theatre space – which leads to patient backlogs.
But there is an even more serious consequence. Maternal mortality rates have actually been increasing, from an average 128 per 100,000 births in a 2000 research estimate, to 147 per 100,000 in a stats.SA report from 2004 (with some provinces reaching a whopping 364 per 100,000). Two-stage abortion are a significant cause of the increase in the maternal mortality rate.
Doctors from a hospital in the KwaZulu-Natal Midlands revealed that five mothers – not those undergoing abortions, but those in labour – recently died in a ten-day period at their hospital. During that time period, about 50 women required theatre time for evacuations. Most of these had indeed used Misoprostil to induce their abortions. In total they required 40 pints of blood to resuscitate, and as a group these women took up some 50 hours of theatre time (an average theatre only operates 40 hours a week).
The result was that the women with complications during labour could not be rushed to theatre, but had to wait. Five mothers died. This is not an isolated incident. Similar scenes are repeated in one state hospital after the other in rural areas. Critical staff shortages are made far worse by abortion overloading. Two-stage abortions are killing South African mothers.”
In the Old Testament, the same Hebrew word is used to describe pre-born babies and children. In the New Testament, the same Greek that is used to describe babies or children, is used for John the Baptist while he was still in his mothers womb (Luke 1:41-44; 2:12, 16; 18:15-17).
“When Elizabeth heard Mary’s greeting, the baby leapt in her womb, and Elizabeth was filled with the Holy Spirit. In a loud voice she exclaimed: ‘blessed are you among women, and blessed is the child you will bear! But why am I so favoured, that the mother of my Lord should come to me? As soon as the sound of your greeting reached my ears, the baby in my womb leapt with joy.’”
God has called some people to His service from the womb:
“Before I formed you in the womb, I knew you, before you were born, I set you apart; I appointed you as a prophet to the nations.”
“…it pleased God, who separated me from my mothers womb and called me through His grace, to reveal His Son in me, that I might preach Him among the Gentiles…”
“The Lord called me from the womb; from the body of my mother He made me…the Lord, who formed me from the womb to be His servant.”
Isaiah 49:1, 5
“For You created my most innermost being; You knit me together in my mothers womb. I praise You because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; Your works are wonderful, I know that full well. My frame was not hidden from You when I was made in the secret place. When I was woven together in the depths of the earth, Your eyes saw my unformed body. All the days ordained for me were written in Your book before one of them came to be.”
Life belongs to God.
“In Him we live and move and have our being.”
“The God who made the world and everything in it is the Lord of Heaven and Earth. He Himself gives all men life and breath and everything else.”
“The earth is the Lord’s and everything in it.”
“Know that the Lord is God. It is He who has made us, we are His.”
“This is what the Lord says – your Redeemer, who formed you in the womb: I am the Lord who has made all things.”
God created man in His image and commanded mankind to be fruitful and multiply (Genesis 1:26-28). The sanctity of life is declared (Genesis 9:6). The conception of children is seen as a gift from God (Genesis 21:1-2; 25:21).
Children should not die for the sins of the parents (Deuteronomy 24:16). Since all life was created by God and belongs to Him, no one has the right to murder.
“You shall not murder.”
The case laws of Exodus actually deal with protection of pre-born babies:
“If men who are fighting hit a pregnant woman and she gives birth prematurely, but there is no serious injury, the offender must be fined whatever the woman’s husband demands and the court allows. But if there is serious injury, you are to take life for life…”
The Bible asks the question:
“Can a mother forget the baby at her breast and have no compassion on the child she has borne? Though she may forget, I will not forget you!”
It seems incredible that any mother could forget her baby, but this is evidently not just a hypothetical question. Many millions of mothers do seem to have forgotten their babies enough to have scheduled an appointment to have them killed.
God is concerned for the weak and helpless. The Bible teaches us that we need to defend them.
“Defend the cause of the weak and fatherless; maintain the rights of the poor and oppressed. Rescue the weak and needy; deliver them from the hand of the wicked.”
“Speak up for those who cannot speak for themselves…speak up and judge fairly; defend the rights of the poor and needy.”
“Whoever welcomes a little child like this in My Name welcomes Me.”
“See that you do not look down on one of these little ones. For I tell you that their angels in Heaven always see the face of My Father in Heaven.”
“Your Father in Heaven is not willing that any of these little ones should be lost.”
Children are a blessing from the Lord
“Sons are a heritage from the Lord, children a reward from Him. Like arrows in the hands of a warrior are sons born in one’s youth. Blessed is the man whose quiver is full of them. They will not be put to shame when they contend with their enemies in their gate.”
God is the Creator. Pre-born babies are persons. Life is precious. Murder is to be severely punished. Abortion is a modern equivalent of child sacrifice. Just as God’s people opposed Pharaoh’s decree to murder newborn babies in Egypt (Exodus 1:15-22), so we need to protect pre-born babies from abortion today. Just as King Herod sought to kill the babies in Bethlehem (Matthew 2:16), so abortionists are tempting to butcher babies today.
“Speak up for those who cannot speak for themselves.”
This is a matter of life and death. The sanctity of human life is an essential article of the Christian Faith. The Bible makes it clear that life begins at conception (Psalm 139:13-16; Isaiah 44:2; Jeremiah 1:5; Luke 1:41). At conception the pre-born baby is genetically, physiologically and organically a distinct person. Life begins at conception. At about three weeks after conception the baby’s heartbeat can be detected. Six weeks after conception, the baby has it’s own life-long brainwave.
If the absence of a heartbeat is considered a sign of death, why then is the presence of a heartbeat not accepted as a sign of life? If the absence of a brainwave is considered a confirmation of death, why then is the presence of this brainwave not accepted as a confirmation of life?
Birth is not a magical act that turns a non-human into a person. Birth is only a change in environment for a life that began many months before. Every abortion stops a beating heart. Every abortion ends a brainwave. Every abortion is the murder of a helpless and innocent human being.
It is a matter of logic. It is of the utmost hypocrisy for us to denounce the atrocities committed under various political systems, if we allow the abortion holocaust to continue in our own country. How incredible that South Africa replaced apartheid with abortion! In the name of human rights, pro-choicers are depriving pre-born babies of the right to life. Instead of discrimination based upon race they advocate discrimination based upon age. How can anyone condemn discrimination based on race, while allowing discrimination based on age?
Of what worth is human dignity, if babies are denied the right to life? The right to life of pre-born babies is one of the most urgent and important issues confronting society today.
What kind of convoluted logic and mental gymnastics can interpret the Right to Life clause in the constitution to protect guilty murderers from execution, but not prevent innocent babies from receiving the death penalty through abortion?
If the right to life of the most helpless and innocent members of society – pre-born babies – is not upheld then the Bill of Rights is a worthless piece of paper.
Any society that is capable of burning, smothering, poisoning or dismembering little babies deserves the wrath of God.
How is it possible that a highly trained and experienced judge – after careful deliberation of all the evidences and arguments, presented by both prosecution and defence, in the calm and objective environment of a court of law – cannot choose to impose the death sentence upon a duly-convicted murderer. Yet a young teenager, without the permission, or even the knowledge, of the parents, can make an emotional and spur-of-the-moment choice to have her innocent unborn baby killed through abortion! A tragic decision she will regret for the rest of her life, and for all Eternity.
By making the murder of pre-born babies legal, easy and taxpayer funded, the Choice of Termination of Pregnancy Act defies all logic.
It is a matter of love. The heart of Christianity is love. Love for God and love for our neighbour (Mark 12:30-31). The Golden Rule of Christ by which we must all live is:
“In everything, do to others what you would have them do to you…”
If you as a mother would not like to be attacked and torn to pieces – then don’t allow it to be done to your baby.
If you as a doctor would not like to be poisoned to death - then don’t do it to a baby.
If you as a member of parliament would not like to be snatched from your home and dismembered – then don’t legalise and finance such violence against babies. “Do to others what you would have them do to you.”
If you do not stand up and oppose abortion then the blood of innocent babies will be upon your own head (Ezekiel 33;1-6). Christians must love their neighbour – and this includes our pre-born neighbours. Caring for the fatherless, protecting the helpless, defending the innocent and speaking up for the voiceless is true Christian love in action.
“Rescue those who are being led away to death; hold back those staggering towards slaughter. If you say, but we knew nothing about this, does not He who weighs your heart perceive it? Does not He who guards your life know it? Will not He repay each one according to what he has done?”
We need to rebuild respect for life. Everyone is made in the image of God and has the right to life – irrespective of their degrees of awareness, health or development. Everyone has been endowed by the Creator with the right to enjoy and defend life and liberty – except where they have forfeited that right by unlawfully taking, or posing an immediate threat to, the life of another.
“Hate evil, love good; maintain justice in the courts…let justice roll on like a river, righteousness like a never failing stream!”
Amos 5:15, 24
Those who are advocating a man-centred, humanist worldview are self-destructive. If a group of people had actually planned how to most effectively destroy a society, they could hardly have done a more effective, or rather destructive, job than what the humanists are doing at this time. Every item of the secular humanist agenda is self-destructive.
By promoting the theory of evolutionism, humanists are promoting a senseless existence in a chance universe: “You came from nothing, you are going nowhere, life is meaningless!”
By campaigning for abortion, the pro-choicers are destroying their own descendants. They are, in effect, aborting their futures. Abortion is an economic disaster which deprives the economy of the productivity, wage-earning, tax-paying contributions and innovations of each life ended. In terms of economics, abortion kills long-term growth.
The inevitable result of rejecting God’s eternal Law are written all over the pages of recent history and our local newspapers: the crime explosion, the pornography plague, increasing rape and child abuse, high taxes, escalating inflation, rising unemployment, the break up of marriages, the breakdown of society, sexually transmitted diseases and the AIDS epidemic.
“Their throat is an open tomb; with their tongues they have practiced deceit…his mouth is full of cursing and bitterness. Their feet are swift to shed blood; destruction and misery are in their ways; and the way of peace they have not known. There is no fear of God before their eyes.”
Even more terrible have been the vicious massacres perpetrated by secular humanists such as Robespierre, Stalin, Mao, Pol Pot, Mengistu and others and the abortion holocaust promoted by the humanist founder of Planned Parenthood, Margaret Sanger, and Marie Stopes.
“The fool has said in his heart, there is not God. They are corrupt. They have done abominable works, there is none who does good.”
Humanism offers no God, no future and no hope.
“Evil will slay the wicked…”
Humanism carried within it the seeds of its own destruction. The enemies of God are destined for defeat. Abortion is not just a political issue. It is not just a social issue. It is not just a moral issue. At its heart abortion is a religious issue. It is a Spiritual battle.
Every year over 80,000 babies are killed through abortion in South Africa. It is not only those directly involved in these crimes of murder that are guilty of violating the 6 th Commandment. All those politicians who worked for, and voted for, legalised abortion in this country share the guilt.
Also guilty of being accessories before, during, and after, the fact are the journalists who promoted abortion, and cover up the facts in order to ensure that the holocaust against the unborn continues. Those pastors who fail to faithfully expound the Scriptures on when life begins, and what a Christian’s responsibility is, to speak up for those who cannot speak up for themselves, are also accessories to murder. And of course, all those voters who continue to vote for pro-abortion parties have also violated the 6 th Commandment and are accessories to murder.
Life begins at conception. Abortion is murder. It is our Christian duty to speak up for those who cannot speak up for themselves. To rescue the perishing. To hold back those staggering towards slaughter.
